Mezza Norte Starts Tonight!

Image
I am definitely a fan of weekend markets like the one in Eton Centris and of course, Mercato Centrale . It will be more fun however, if there will be one near my place. Lo and behold, the people behind Mercato Centrale (Anton Diaz, RJ Ledesma and more) heard my prayers! (Haha! Of course, God too!) Presenting...Mezza Norte! Hooray! Starting tonight (Yes, it's halfway through the year --- July 26 already!) people from the northern part of the Metro can spend their gimmick nights in UP-Ayala Technohub along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City --- because the fun of food tripping has been brought closer to us! RSM is famous for their Bulalo. And surely their Bulalo is love!

I have to admit that I can't even remember when this Joey Pepperoni food tripping happened. Definitely months. Haha. (Late post much?)

Johnny Rockets, Eastwood Mall

Image
Johnny Rockets ' here! The famous California burger joint opened its first Asian franchise here in Quezon City a few years back. With the same diner-style decor and famous milkshake and burgers, Johnny Rockets brought about so much anticipation to Filipino burger-lovers. I was able to dine at Johnny Rockets in California a couple of times. The one I frequented was in Long Beach, beside the movie house. My favorites: their Route 66 burger and strawberry milkshake with malt. I am also enthralled by the cutesie 50's diner style interior design, complete with diner booths and jukeboxes. Everyone wanted to try Johnny Rockets despite reviews that this Manila franchise is way too expensive (Read: triple McDonalds' price). So yay! (L) Signage and (R) Restaurant entrance/facade

Summer Palace in EDSA Shangri-La Hotel

Image
Dad celebrated his birthday a few years ago at Summer Palace in EDSA Shangri-La Hotel. After choosing between Heat and Summer Palace, we ended up reserving a function room at the latter. The function room was across the main dining hall which is open to walk-in diners. chandelier in the function room

Manang's Chicken [Mercato Centrale]

It took me awhile to publish this post mainly because each time I open the draft, I seem to be at a loss for superlatives to use to describe Manang's Chicken . Sino si Manang?

Banapple Banoffee Pie

Image
I'll let you in a secret - I've never eaten in Banapple yet! Yup! Not inside their cutesy restaurant. It's probably because it is always full when we come by and I'm not really a fan of eating in crowded places, much more of waiting too long before I can eat. Anyway, inspite of that 'secret' I am still a fan of their pies and cakes (but take-aways). Their pasta dishes are also good I've heard, and that's next on my to-do list.  this is it!

Tong Yang Shabu-Shabu and Barbeque Restaurant

Image
We love buffets!  ^^^That is an understatement. Tong Yang is a Shabu-Shabu Restaurant that features a buffet aisle of raw cuts of meat, fish, vegetables, noodles that diners can choose from and cook on their own using a hot plate placed on the diners' table. They also offer a drink refilling station, cooked food area (with rice, pot stickers, etc.) and dessert station. *I am actually confused now between the terms 'shabu-shabu' and 'hot-pot' as I often use them interchangeably. After a few clicks here and there, I found out that Hot Pot is the Chinese version while Shabu-Shabu is the Japanese variation.*

Yellow Cab Pizza

Image
My mom, dad, sister, W and I were on our way home from seeing a loved one off to the bus station one afternoon. Hungry, my dad asked W where he wants to eat. W can't think of anything right away so instead, I asked him what he wants to eat - and he said pizza ! I've been craving for four cheese pizza and my sister wants some too. And so we've decided to go to Yellow Cab Pizza in Berkeley Square, along Commonwealth Avenue (Tandang Sora Avenue).  The place wasn't packed for a Sunday afternoon so we didn't have to wait too long to be seated and served. The servers were even busier taking care of the delivery service than the patrons inside the resto. haha! =) They were polite and attentive,    even offering us magazines to read while we wait. We have decided to order the following: 14" Four Seasons Pizza Php610 A sampler of NY Pizza, 4 Cheese, Anchovy Lovers and Roasted Garlic & Shrimp My sister and I wanted four cheese but we want to give our dad ...

Kogi Bulgogi, Eastwood Mall

Image
We love celebrations! Our family takes anniversaries and birthdays as excuses to eat, eat and eat! And so a few weekends ago, we headed to Kogi Bulgogi at Eastwood Mall to celebrated Mom and Dad’s Nth Wedding Anniversary. We (M, W and I) came in too late as we came from the dentist for M and W’s check up. They were almost done with their food that I felt I had to rush eating mine or my dad will ask me to pay for everything because we kept them waiting haha. I was not able to take pictures of what they ate as well as ours. I ordered Chicken Bibimbap and Shrimp Tempura and shared it with W. M ordered Beef Bibimbap. We ate some of their leftovers - like the Sundubu Jjigae - a hot and spicy Korean stew. I loved the fact that they were able to adjust the level of spiciness in that soup since Kogi Bulgogi's letting the customers choose according to their preference. I must say I enjoyed the Sundubu Jjigae as I love spicy food. The rich taste of the soup plus the clams and mushroom...

Café Mediterranean

Image
After watching KAOS and since it’s still going to be a long drive back home, we have decided to eat dinner in one of the restaurants in Resorts World. We went a floor up from the theatre and found only Café Mediterranean the only place that could accommodate the 20++ of us. Funny how the staff went gaga seeing 20++ people come together to their resto. It took them some time figuring out how to seat us - and we eventually ended up in sitting in the middle of the resto on a "long table." I found the decor cute and the over-all resto look okay but I think they can still add some more oomph. We got Quattro Formaggi (Four Cheese) Pizza - Php285 It's got a mix of mozzarella, gorgonzola, parmesan and fontina cheeses.  Since we were sharing, we got a Platter with Pita Bread - Php645 . The meat were chicken, pork, beef and kofta kebabs.  If you want to be able to have a taste of all their kebab types, get this. However, their pita bread tears easily I was barely able to ma...

Red Crab, Resorts World

Image
When we watched KAOS a few weeks back, we first had lunch at Red Crab in Resorts World. I was too hungry that I forgot taking pictures of the food we ordered, but used the time waiting for the food to be served to take pictures of the restaurant interior. I loved the way the resto felt airy as the “walls” (or should I say partitions) open up to the atrium. The feature wall was too cute not to be noticed - with its Tong, Tong, Tong, Pakitong-kitong tessellation. The hanging lighting fixtures looked sleek and cute - but I couldn't figure out if there's any logical sequence in their arrangement. I felt the whole restaurant was full of symbolic design translations but couldn't find what those lights signified (probably just utility). Another feature wall! The other side of the restaurant looked like this - curves - which I think alludes to the ocean or water or waves.  The kids surely had a great time, especially with the comfy chairs. My bad, I was not able to take a pi...
